Case Study

Fox Sports Network

Los Angeles, Houston, Detroit

When FOX Sports Network (FSN) West moved from the Los Angeles Staples Center to a downtown location, the network took on the challenge of launching not only a new, state-of-the-art FSN West facility, but also upgrading existing FSN regional facilities in Houston and Detroit. All three finished locations would also require HD production and transmission capabilities. FOX Sports contracted OPM-Services, LLC to design and install first the FSN West facility, and then to build the regional facilities on a smaller scale according to similar design criteria — all in time for the start of the Houston Texans’ 2009 NFL season and the Detroit Red Wings’ 2009 NHL preseason action.

The design for all three facilities included Ross switchers, Evertz routers, and Avid edit systems, although the differences in individual workflows made it impossible to apply a straightforward footprint concept across all three sites. Considerable modifications to the workflow were created yet the initial FSN West blueprint established a baseline for all future facility upgrades.

OPM-Services, LLC improved design efficiency and streamlined the design timeline to meet project goals on schedule. FSN West went live in August 2009 for the conclusion of the MLB baseball season, the Houston facility went live in time to cover the NFL season opener for the Texans, and the Detroit facility went live in October 2009 in time to carry the Detroit Red Wings NHL exhibition game live from Sweden.
